Peter’s book records rich tradition of handbell ringing in local villages
PETER Fawcett has just published his first book – 38 years after starting it.
The 360-page hardback entitled Ringing for Gold is thought to be the most authoritative work ever published on handbell ringing.
Many of the 150 photographs were taken in local villages. According to Peter, Huddersfield is the most internationally famous town for handbell ringing.
The black and white cover photograph is of the Huddersfield Prize Band taken in Batty’s Yard off Market Place, just after they had just won the 1904 British Open Handbell Championship.
